The Story

Seolta Music was founded in 2008 by Irish musician Mark Armstrong with a simple but enduring purpose: to make his music — and the broader tradition of Irish repertoire — available to performers and ensembles around the world. Along with his role as Director of Army Music in Ireland, Mark has enjoyed a career of over forty years as a conductor of choirs and bands, a composer and arranger of music for all genres, an adjudicator at national music festivals and more recently an advocate for the Irish music sector through his consultancy work with Irish musical bodies such as The Arts Council of Ireland.

The Name

The name Seolta is an Irish word meaning 'flowing' or 'well-directed' capturing the spirit of our vision to carry Irish music outward, across all borders. It was originally suggested to Mark by the celebrated Irish composer Bill Whelan (Riverdance) as the name for a choir formed to record the very first Riverdance album in 1995. The name endured long beyond then and became the name of the company behind Mark's creative work!

Seolta Music is proud to be the publisher of sheet music performed and recorded by the internationally acclaimed UCD Choral Scholars. Their recordings have brought Irish choral music to audiences worldwide, and the choral scores published through Seolta have followed — now loved by choirs, orchestras, and ensembles across the globe.
