Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) wrote several settings of the 'Gloria'. RV 589 is the most familiar and popular piece of sacred music by Vivaldi. The 'Gloria RV 589' remained in a relatively unknown status, until the revival by Alfredo Casella during 'Vivaldi Week' in Siena in 1939 and it enjoys well-founded popularity, performed at many sacred events, including Christmas. The 'Gloria' has been recorded on almost one hundred CD's. It has also been used in a number of films. The first movement featured in the 1996 Scott Hicks film 'Shine' about pianist David Helfgott. This publication concerns the first movement 'Gloria in Excelsis Deo' in an arrangement for Choir and Wind Ensemble.
