O'Carolan's Concerto - T. O'Carolan
O'Carolan's Concerto - T. O'Carolan
arr. Brendan Power for Concert Band
Turlough O'Carolan, the famous blind Irish harpist wrote this piece in the early 1700's, it is said in a response to a compositional challenge from the Italian composer Geminiani. O'Carolan would have been familiar with the 'modern' Italian music of Vivaldi and Corelli and incorporated elements of the Italian style into this charming piece. Brendan Power has arranged it for concert band carefully preserving its poise and classical refinement. A note for Military Band conductors - this piece is most effective as a slow review march.
