The Pilgrim - Shaun Davey

The Pilgrim Suite was originally commissioned by the Lorient Interceltic Festival and first performed in 1983. Its theme is a journey through the seven Celtic countries of Western Europe, and the original music features a wide variety of traditional Celtic instruments and soloists, as well as choral pieces in Breton, Welsh, Old Irish, Scots Gallic and Cornish, accompanied by full orchestra, frontline band of traditional instruments, and narrator.

The suite was revised for a concert in Glasgow in 1990, and revised again in 2000 for performances in Dublin and Lorient with the addition of several powerful new pieces later released on Shaun Davey's 'May we never have to say goodbye' album (Tara Records, 2006). 2025 saw an updating of the piece in preparation for its forthcoming performance at the Lorient Interceltic Festival of 2026.
